Biomimicry and creativity

As part of Graphic Days® 2022, XKé? ZeroTredici presents a series of laboratories at its operating sites on the theme of biomimesis, crossing and embracing, in this way, the age groups from Zero to Thirteen years.

Spazio zerosei will appeal to families with children from zero to six years.
Xkè? Il Laboratorio della Curiosità will involve children and young people from 6 to 13 years, with the aim of renewing their curiosity towards nature and nurturing their creativity.

Some shells and succulents follow the same, hypnotic, spiral growth. Flowers, snowflakes and starfish are extraordinary examples of radial symmetry. Trees and leaf ribs grow by branching. The movement of the serpents and the bed of the rivers are united by the same, elegant, sinuous course. Nature seems to speak to us through a series of recurring forms and structures. But why do plants and animals tend to evolve according to the same patterns? And why does our gaze find them so naturally beautiful and harmonious? And above all, how much do Design, Architecture and Art owe to the creativity of Mother Nature?

And so we went out to see the stars again

In this workshop dedicated to the little ones, children will be able to discover manual printing and the principles of typesetting. Through the use of stamps and movable type, infinite patterns and combinations will be realized to create different characters that live in space.

A workshop to learn what movable type and typesetting are.

Different from whom?

Participants will have fun imagining new faces, created in complete freedom through a game of dice and the composition of graphic elements.
A reflection on the issues of diversity and inclusion: recognizing diversity as a starting point for being together.

Narratives on fabric

Starting with the iconography of flags, the idea of an identity banner is overcome by creating the flags of an ideal kingdom with children, the result of the integration of multiple parts (everyday objects and symbols of the natural world) open to new collective narratives. The children will work synergistically starting from a grid, creating a collective work.

A reflection on the issues of man-nature integration and as a union of multiplicity.

Timetables:

7 October, reserved for schools. Info and registration at booking@graphicdays.it.

8 October, reserverd for families:
Session 1, 11.00 am-12.00 pm
Session 2, 4.00 pm-5.00 pm

Fantastic vocabularies, words to connect

Words are powerful tools for union and integration, creating bridges between people. Through a combinatorial game, participants challenge each other to create new words, from which to invent stories. To make them we use the technique of monotypy, so as to paint on acetates and print on paper. For girls and boys 6-11 years.

Workshop by Print Club Torino and Gabriele Pino for Festival Scarabocchi in Novara.

Andrea Antinori: Dove è andata la Vittoria Alata. Workshop with Kids

As soon as she felt free, the statue flapped its wings and shouted: «Open the window, quickly!». The window was locked but Giovannino removed the bolt and opened it.
«Thank you, guys. Forget about me!» he exclaimed happily while taking flight and flew away like a dove».
Mario Lodi tells in his story “The Winged Victory” how the statue escaped from a museum, flying away from the window. But, where did it go? What were his plans?
Did he think he was going on vacation, or did he have a secret date? But more importantly, has anyone ever seen a statue fly away?
There is not a single answer to all these questions, and every child can tell his own version of the event, through a drawn story!

Two workshops led by the illustrator Andrea Antinori addressed to children aged 6 to 10, organized in collaboration with the Scarabocchi festival.
The participation to the workshop is free. Access to Cavallerizza Reale is free for children. An accompanying person will be entitled to the reduced price of 6€ instead of 8€.

Angelica Gerosa: characters and letters. Workshop with Kids

In this workshop, children could make a letter or a character using the collage technique. Starting from a black letter on white paper, each can add many details with colored paper: there will be eyes and some characteristic elements, such as a hat, a tail, or heels! Each child will be free to create an elaborate letter, or a short word in which the various characters interact, or they will have the opportunity to compose their own name.

The workshop will be led by illustrator Angelica Gerosa and is aimed at children aged 6 to 10 years.

The participation to the workshop is free. The entrance to Cavallerizza requires a ticket of 8 euros, free access to kids.
