Live printing

A permanent open workspace

An area dedicated to live printing in which artists, designers and printers, assisted by Turin Print Club Torino, will take turns throughout the duration of the festival with performances, workshops and small residencies. The result of what will be produced will gradually be exhibited during the festival inside the Cavallerizza, enriching the visit itinerary.

4 workstations to show how some of the main craft techniques work: screen printing, risograph, engraving, mixed techniques (calligraphy, collage, cyanotype and letterpress).

Screen printing

Screen printing is an extremely versatile technique because it allows you to print on different supports: from fabric to paper, passing from wood to glass, and it can also be used on large formats such as panels or decorative elements.

Risograph

Risograph is a technique halfway between screen printing and off-set printing; banana paper matrices and soy-based inks are its peculiarities. The overlapping semi-transparent inks allow for infinite color effects. It allows to reach a high number of copies, guaranteeing high energy savings. Erroneously, the name Risograph does not derive from the use of rice paper sheets as matrices, but from the word “Riso”, which means “ideal”

Engraving

Chalcographic engraving, in the field of art printing, is the technician that allows to produce marks on a matrix of hard material (traditionally wood or metal). Once inked, this matrix is imprinted by means of a press on a sheet of paper, giving rise to an edition. There are many typologies and they are all interesting for the type of sign that can be reproduced: aquatint, etching, soft varnish, black manner.
