Superstudio Village

Milan

For the first time in Milan from April 20 to 26, during Milan Design Week, a pop-up edition of Graphic Days® will take place inside Superstudio Village: social design is the common thread that unites the exhibition space with an area dedicated to printing techniques and a performance space that integrates playful and participatory dimensions.

FACCIAMO CHE

The area integrates playful and participatory dimensions, through interactive installations that trigger moments of collective planning, giving life to a true playground. Through Mini Mega Spazio playkit, composed of modular, flexible, and removable elements, designed to adapt to different contexts, visitors are invited to build, combine, and transform elements, shaping to personal and collective visions and testing participatory methodologies. Gaining experience through play becomes an opportunity for encounter and lays the foundations for a transgenerational dialogue within a free and imaginative design environment, where shared creativity sparks reflections about building and transforming collective spaces.

The activity is inspired by the Mini Mega Spazio project, created by Graphic Days®, which brings together participatory urban regeneration activities based on the design thinking method and is realized in collaboration with materieunite.

LIVE PRINTING

A permanent hands-on workspace open to all that allows the public to print using artisanal and sustainable techniques such as screen printing, engraving, collage, and letterpress, making the world of printing easily accessible.

Live printing is an area dedicated to manual experimentation, where every visitor can try it first hand and take home the resulting product.

The area is curated by Print Club Torino: an association involved in social promotion and creative printing laboratory founded in Turin in 2015, a catalyst for the creative community, and the creator of the Graphic Days® festival, directly connected with the Mini Mega Spazio Playkit performance space.

Print Club Torino presents the Silkscreen Performance: a live screen printing performance where the printing process becomes an open, progressive and collective act.

SHAPE YOUR ENERGY

A site-specific and interactive dark room that uses experimental languages and data visualization tools to create an immersive and responsive environment, thanks to an innovative video delivery system, powered by uBroker.

Inside, visitors can participate via smartphone in a playful quiz to analyze people’s environmental footprint, both individually and collectively: an opportunity to reflect on the impact on the ecosystem in a lighthearted way, yet with an eye toward the future. The outcome of the interaction leads to the definition of an individual profile, as well as collective visualizations that show the audience’s behavior in aggregate, reacting in real time to the participants’ responses.

POSTERHEROES COLLECTION

The winning projects from the 14 editions of the international design and social communication competition Posterheroes are presented in a single exhibition for the first time: 560 posters exploring crucial themes, from environmental protection to human rights, from diversity to digital inclusion, from food to love to workers’ rights.

Posterheroes is a project, created in 2010 by the PLUG Association, which invites the global creative community to express messages on social and environmental issues through posters to encourage dialogue and inspire change. It engages young people and international artists through a democratic and accessible approach; in 14 years, the contest has received 28,000 posters from over 120 countries worldwide: a global community committed to making a difference using the tools of graphic design and the directness of visual communication.

THE GATE

A site-specific installation created by Graphic Days®, Docks Group, and Dott.Gallina welcomes the festival audience at the entrance of the Line: not just a sculpture, but a device that lets the city breathe!

The intervention is made with GreenPoli® panels, an innovative material in 100% recyclable and recycled multiwall polycarbonate. Thanks to the arcoPure photocatalytic treatment activated by UV rays, the translucent surface helps reduce the concentration of VOCs, NOX, and SOX pollutants generated by traffic and industrial activities—by breaking them down and rendering them harmless.

WHAT DOES DESIGN COMMUNICATE?

In the contemporary world, design is not just about aesthetics; it is a powerful communication tool that goes far beyond visual appearance. The balance between form and function, aesthetics and utility, plays a crucial role in creating meaningful connections between an object and its audience.

Design becomes a vehicle for social and identity-driven messages, shaping places and building communities.

The algorithm as a universal language of matter.

Two streaming talk sessions explore how AI is redefining architectural design, materials and creative processes: from urban regeneration as an act of intelligent subtraction, to bio-design as form induced by nature, through to speculative materials that AI allows us to imagine before they even exist.

The first talk at 2.30pm brings together architecture studios, academic research — with the participation of Politecnico di Milano — and technological innovation. The second at 5.00pm enters the expressive languages: photography, fashion, video and sound as fields where AI rewrites the creative process. When the author and the algorithm meet, where are the limits, what emerges that neither could have imagined alone?

A day conceived and organised by ATI Project in collaboration with Milan-based photographer and Art Director Gabriele Giussani.

After the talks, the space transforms.

Live streaming AI projections generate images in real time across the KENOSIS cycle — urban regeneration, bio-design, matter. Visitors, detected through spatial scanning, unknowingly become part of the system: each presence is a generative parameter that alters the projected images. At certain moments the process renders itself visible — wireframes, vector fields, Voronoi cells — making the algorithmic logic readable even for a non-technical audience. In the evening, starting from 8.00pm, a four-act audio-reactive DJ set carries the cycle into sound: algorithmic subtraction down to the bare structural skeleton. The audience stops being spectators. The process does not show results — it shows itself as it transforms.

Superstudio Village

Superstudio’s new location in Milano Bovisa district will be inaugurated during Milano Design Week: a Super Playground, a space dedicated to new design proposals, combining creativity and research, where visitors can enjoy young talents and cutting-edge projects.

The Line building will host Graphic Days®
