A new creative and safe space for Rigola School: Via Amati is being transformed with street painting, greenery, and community participation! In Venaria Reale, a Mini Mega Spazio is born—shaped by imagination, social interaction, and collective care.

Mini Mega Spazio goes to Venaria

Social Design

The area adjacent to Rigola School in Venaria Reale has been revitalized through depaving, pedestrianization, street painting, and greening interventions, transforming what was once a space for vehicular traffic and parking into a welcoming, stimulating, and safe environment for students. Through creative workshops, Graphic Days® explored the desires and visions of the children, aiming to raise awareness among younger generations about new ways of experiencing public space. The result is a creative and recreational space designed to foster social interaction, sharing, and imagination. The project was carried out in collaboration with Quattrolinee and Neó Natura su misura, supported by the regional “Ambiti Urbani” call for proposals, with technical sponsorship from Univer PPG.

Workshops in Schools

As part of the regeneration project, Mini Mega Spazio engaged the students of Rigola School in creative workshops focused on civic participation, environmental education, and co-construction. The school’s access road—transformed through the street painting intervention—was explored by students through a participatory mapping experience, aimed at envisioning new desired ways of using the space. The activity also included short educational sessions on the ecosystem benefits brought by the regeneration of the area surrounding the school. Through co- and self-construction workshops, benches and planters were added to the new space.

Urban painting and green interventions

Thanks to the removal of 2,807 square meters of paving in the former parking area adjacent to the school, the project increased soil permeability by 39%, introducing 24 trees, 1,007 shrubs, and 2,559 herbaceous plants. The regeneration of the new school street also included street painting, the installation of 3 trees in planters, 10 seating elements, and 3 bike islands—creating a colorful, active space designed as an innovative and integral part of the school experience. This intervention has improved urban livability by absorbing CO₂ emissions, fostering biodiversity, regulating the microclimate, and bringing care and beauty to a space intended for recreation.

Communication

Communication accompanied every phase of the project, involving the community of Venaria Reale in the ongoing transformation while promoting environmental awareness and civic participation. Through a variety of tools—from city posters to social media content, thematic postcards to informative graphics at the construction site—the project clearly conveyed the 7 socio-ecological benefits brought by Mini Mega Spazio and the positive impact of urban regeneration. The visual identity served as the common thread tying together all the project’s informational components, creating a cohesive and continuous narrative.

Inauguration

The inauguration of the urban regeneration project in Venaria Reale marked a day of civic participation and public awareness, aimed at improving the livability of everyday spaces. The event featured students, families, and the local administration, all engaged in activities designed to foster a sense of community. Among the initiatives: a screen-printing workshop open to all ages, the distribution of flower and plant seeds, and a creative environmental education activity.  It was a collective moment that sparked dialogue and awareness about how to regenerate the city and care for shared public spaces.
