An exhibition project and an observatory dedicated to Critical Regionalism.

Singolare Plurale

2020

Open Call

Singolare Plurale started as an exhibition project in 2020 but it transformed into a permanent survey on the cultural heritage of Italian tradition and folklore through an open call to artists and project designers.

The selected projects are published on the site and can be transformed into traveling exhibitions open to the general public, with a view to a continuous dialogue with the community and with society as a whole.

Drawing inspiration from the Framptonian architectural current of Critical Regionalism, with Singulare Plurale we want to enhance visual design projects capable of remaining in balance between the particular and the universal, the unique and the standard, the past and the present. From textiles to ceramics, from publishing to furnishing objects. We investigate the contemporary reinterpretations of cultural archetypes and symbolisms of the varied traditional Italian culture, which, in their reinterpretations, fit into their surroundings in a harmonious and coherent way. The recovery of pre-existing historical traditions and iconographies thus takes place through new linguistic and visual codes, showing the viewer how to recognize and reconnect with an ancestral culture through an interpretation process that is completely contemporary.

The genealogy of the process arises from a research and selection process carried out for the production of the Singolare Plurale exhibition in collaboration with Mauro Bubbico, one of the masters of contemporary graphics, AGI member and profound connoisseur of popular tradition, which is understood as a powerful generator of imagery.

The call is always open

Each project designer can submit several projects to the call by filling out the form each time. The fundamental criteria for the selection of projects is consistency with the themes indicated in the manifesto.

The authors of projects deemed pertinent to the curatorial manifesto will be contacted directly by the organizers to examine content and methodology and evaluate their possible publication. If successful, the project will be published on the Graphic Days® portal, which will host a specific permanent virtual observatory on this theme and could become part of new national or international exhibition itineraries organized by the institution.
