A tactical urban planning intervention to involve the citizens of Settimo Torinese in the rethinking of the new pedestrian area.

Posto Giusto Per

2020

Social Design

In 2020 we collaborated with the Municipality of Settimo Torinese for the creation of an urban development plan through a tactical urban planning action following the expansion of the central pedestrian area.

We developed an experimental communication project aimed at involving the citizens, with the objective of raising awareness of different targets and actively involving the highest number of people.

The name “Posto Giusto Per” is a suggestion, an invitation to experience the area in the best possible way and to encourage a comparison between the designers and the people who live there every day, actively involving the public in the production of ideas for new uses and new functions of the street. Citizens, with our support, became part of the change by suggesting and proposing ideas while using and benefiting from the activities we made available.

We gave the project a recognizable and multi-chromatic graphic line and we used instruments with a high communicative and emotional impact with the aim of attracting attention and encouraging the triggering of new uses, proposals and interpretations of the spaces, giving back to the residents, to commercial activities and users a space of renewed cohesion and sharing.

The project was carried out with the patronage of the Municipality of Settimo Torinese, with the support of the ECM Foundation, in collaboration with Space Tortilla, with the Informagiovani of Settimo Torinese, with the Archimede Library and with the Freidano Ecomuseum and with the technical sponsorship of PPG Univer

We created an ideal conversation between the street and those who cross it, a symbiotic exchange of ideas and thoughts between the city and its inhabitants.

→Captivating calls to action able to attract users and involve the participants in simple motor and

sharing activities using the space of the street.

→Motivational and emotional phrases with reference to the value of the individual and the

    community.

→Urban engagement which translates into the use of existing supports in the street with the

objective of giving it a new face.

Each communication medium takes up the concept created for Posto Giusto Per. As happens online, there are also quotes, calls to action that express positive messages on paper, on T-shirts or shopping bags.

The patterns painted for the street perform a dual graphic and playful function, encouraging children to try their hands at quick competitions.

The continuous dialogue between physical installations and social channels represents a fundamental node of the project for the transmission of information and the collection of feedback from users.

On 6th July 2020 we “cut the ribbon” of the intervention with various activities involving the citizens of Settimo.                                                                                                                               Revolution Dance Project dancers used the pedestrian street as a stage for their performances and games were organized for children, using the patterns painted on the street as a playing field.

On 13th November 2021, the Administration of Settimo Torinese inaugurated a new urban design project with the involment of its citizens which included green areas and spaces for play, relaxation and socialization. The action of tactical urbanism had reached its goal and given life to a definitive intervention of reorganization of the area.

The extension of the pedestrian area of Settimo Torinese was an opportunity to promote a tactical urban planning action: we actively involved the citizens, favoring discussions with the Local Government for the definition of future uses of the area.

The concept is expressed on digital and paper supports; on T-shirts or shopping bags there are quotes and calls to action that express positive messages.
